Updated October 2026

The short answer: League City approved a $49.76 million construction contract on Oct. 13, 2026, to build Pat Hallisey Park, a 106-acre sportsplex on the west side near Calder Drive and Ervin Street. It will have 12 pickleball courts, nine ball fields, two soccer fields and two tennis courts, with completion targeted for summer 2028.

This is the biggest park project League City has taken on in years, and it lands on the fastest-growing side of town. Here is what is being built, when it opens and what it means if you own a home nearby.

Pat Hallisey Park: Key Facts

  • Contract: $49.76M to SpawGlass, approved Oct. 13, 2026
  • Size: 106 acres
  • Location: west League City, between Calder Drive and Ervin Street
  • Highlights: 12 pickleball courts, 9 lighted ball fields, 2 multi-use fields, 2 lighted tennis courts
  • Target completion: summer 2028
  • Funding: park dedication fees and 4B sales tax revenue

What Is Being Built at Pat Hallisey Park?

The city’s project page lists the full plan:

  • Five lighted softball fields
  • Four lighted youth baseball fields
  • Batting cages
  • 12 pickleball courts
  • Two lighted tennis courts
  • Two multi-use fields for soccer, football and lacrosse
  • Two playgrounds, one on the north end and one on the south
  • A picnic shelter with restrooms
  • A memorial garden
  • A 10-foot-wide decomposed granite trail
  • Native landscaping, reforestation and detention ponds
  • Lighted parking, a maintenance facility and a building with restrooms, concessions and a meeting room

That is a full tournament-level complex, not a neighborhood park. Youth leagues and pickleball players are going to fill it.

Where Is Pat Hallisey Park?

The park sits on the west side of League City between Calder Drive and Ervin Street. It was originally planned as Bay Colony Park. That puts it on the same side of town as Legacy by Hillwood and the newer west side neighborhoods, where most of the city’s growth is happening.

When Will Pat Hallisey Park Open?

Council awarded the contract on Oct. 13, 2026. City documents give the contractor about 570 days, a little over a year and a half, according to Community Impact. The city’s project page lists construction starting in fall 2026 or winter 2027, depending on weather, with substantial completion in summer 2028.

Big projects slip. I will update this post when construction starts and again when the city sets an opening date.

How Is Pat Hallisey Park Paid For?

The park is funded with park dedication fees, which developers pay when they build new neighborhoods, and sales tax revenue through the city’s 4B Industrial Development Corp. The city’s capital budget for the project, including design and land, is listed at about $58.6 million.

In other words, the growth on the west side is helping pay for the park that serves it.

Who Was Pat Hallisey?

Pat Hallisey lived in League City from the early 1970s and served as mayor from 2016 to 2022. Before that, he directed both the League City and Galveston County park departments. Council voted to name the park after him in February 2025.

What a Park Like This Does for Nearby Home Values

Buyers pay for what they can reach in five minutes. Families with kids in sports will put homes near this park at the top of their list, and pickleball players will too. That kind of demand supports prices.

The trade-off is traffic. On tournament weekends, streets near the park will be busy. If you are buying, drive the area on a Saturday before you make an offer. If you are selling nearby, the park is a selling point I will put front and center in your marketing.
